At the doctor’s office: Where a girl like Cali can get the surgery she needs to breathe free, a boy like Antonio receives simple treatment for a broken collarbone and avoids lifelong disability.
- In 2007 the Children’s Alliance won the Cover All Kids law. The law phases in comprehensive health coverage for every child in Washington – by 2010.
- Since 2005 our work has provided needed health coverage to 84,000 kids in Washington.
At the lunch table: Where hungry kids can eat healthy meals at home and at school..
- In 2008, the Children’s Alliance secured an increase in the income cut-off for food stamps – providing 23,000 more needy families with the help they need.
- In 2006 we changed the law to provide greater access to school breakfast and since then two million more school meals have been served to hungry school children.
- When the federal government denied basic food assistance to immigrant kids we made sure 40,000 immigrant families in Washington State would have equal access to food stamps – which continues today.
In the bright eyes of child: Who will have the opportunities he needs to develop his brain and potential – whether he spends his early years at home, at a child care program, or with family.
- In 2006 the Children’s Alliance led the successful campaign to create the Washington State Department of Early Learning and a statewide rating system for child care centers.
- Our work has secured child care subsidies for 300,000 kids in Washington.
In the life of a child living in foster care: Who has a better chance today to have a stable home and the support she needs to grow and thrive.
- Foster kids were promised change for the better with the landmark settlement of a class-action lawsuit in 2004. The Children’s Alliance is standing strong for foster kids – making sure the promises are kept.
- In 2007 the Children’s Alliance won a six-year state investment in identifying, understanding, and eliminating the racial disparities in our child welfare system.
- In 2008 we helped to secure $9 million dollars of investments to meet the urgent needs of foster kids for education, health screenings, and other supports to give them a real chance of success.
